Radio Sarang 107.8 FM is a community radio established in the year 2009. It went live officially on September 23, 2009, inaugurated by the then governor of Karnataka Mr Hansraj Bhardhwaj in the presence of Bishop of Mangalore Aloysius P. D’Souza, Rector of St Aloysius College Fr Joseph Rodrigues SJ, Principal Fr Swebert D’Silva SJ and founder Director of Radio Sarang Dr (Fr) Richard Rego SJ.
In its decade-old existence, the station has grown from strength to strength, bagging three national awards. The most recent award was the 1st prize in 2019 for its most innovative and creative programme called ‘Antarabelaku’ (inner light). It highlighted the life of visually impaired listeners of Radio Sarang.
Radio Sarang is the first community radio station of Dakshina Kannada and is the only station in Karnataka to broadcast programmes in four local languages – Kannada, Tulu, Konkani and Beary. Presently, it broadcasts programmes for terrestrial radio for 16 hours, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Besides, its presence in the digital media through app has made it possible for it to be present to the worldwide audience for 24 hours.
