In the Konkani Thalo Umalo programme on July 26, Vincent Mendonca, Junior Training Officer spoke about ‘the need of technical education and its scope in present days’. He said that the new national education policy had integrated skills into the curriculum and hence ITIs will have a bright future.
Speaking about St Aloysius ITI (SAITI), Mr Mendonca said that SAITI was started in 1981 during the centenary celebration of the College. “It was the dream of Jesuit fathers to cater to the needs of the poorer students through technical education,” he said.
Mr Mendonca said that ITI education is unique. “It helps an 8th failed student to lead a respectable life by obtaining special training in technical field and secure a decent job,” he added. He also said that SAITI has always helped students to get good jobs. Many of them today have gone on to become successful entrepreneurs.
Calling upon students to come out of the stigma of studying in ITI, Mr Mendonca said that one who does ITI is not a low rated person. “He/she is equivalent to a doctor or an engineer in that he/she is skilled uniquely and not all can get such skills. When something goes wrong in our house with electrical equipment or plumbing, we need these specialists. Only they can fix such problems. So, we must give them their due,” he said.
Many listeners interacted with Mr Vincent Mendonca.
